  Booty Bay fishing contest (checklist)

Every sunday at 2 p.m. there is a fishing contest in Booty Bay, called Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza. Here's a list of things to check before the contest begins. Many players don't need to remember all of these.

  • set your hearthstone to Booty Bay
  • turn your PvP off
  • have at least 6 slots of free bag space
  • take some elixir of waterwalk with you
  • equip fishing hat?
  • equip mount speed and run speed gear (or Boots of the Bay)
  • activate auto-loot
  • disable add-ons?
  • set the alarmclock off, so it doesn't bother you
  • instant quest text (on by default)
  • have room for one more quest in your quest log(?)
  • /dnd (do not disturb)
  • don't queue to a battleground or arena
  • be there 10 minutes early in case you get disconnected
  • if you're in a party, watch out that it doesn't convert to raid as raid members can't get quest items(?)
  • don't use alchemist's flask or you won't be able to use elixir of waterwalk
  • decide beforehand which prize you want, in case you win
  • Yolamba's Isle still have the fish but you may not want to go that far
  • check that your fishing skill is high enough (I don't know how high it needs to be)

You should go to the beach a few minutes early and start practicing, to get the feel. :) The race starts between 13:57 and 14:01 WoW-time. Don't get disencouraged if there are many players since most might be on a cross-realm and are not competing in the same contest. Some players don't need the elixir of waterwalk, but for those of us who do: be careful if you use the mouse to turn as that will cancel the waterwalk effect if you turn downwards while on water. Why I mention the "disable add-ons" is because if you use your hearthstone or Boots of the Bay to teleport to Booty Bay, the add-ons may add one or few seconds to the loading screen.

And now, as they say in Wowhead and in one movie: Learn to stop worrying and love the Extravaganza! :)
